This event featured not only an array of networking opportunities but also the chance to honour the outstanding talents and creativity that continue to shape the Dutch gaming industry.

BUas games nominated for Best Student Game

For our students, one of the most eagerly awaited award categories was of course 'Best Student Game'. This category recognised the talent emerging from Dutch universities, highlighting games developed by students as part of their study programme curriculum. To be eligible, the games not only had to be finished but also had to be (beta) published, showcasing the dedication and hard work of these up-and-coming game developers.

In a stunning display of innovation and creativity, all three nominees for the 'Best Student Game' category hailed from Breda University of Applied Sciences, demonstrating our commitment to nurturing and fostering young talent. These teams demonstrated exceptional talent and a deep commitment to their craft:

  1. Iron Line - Team Trainwreck
  2. Ornament Express - Choo Choo Studios
  3. Viking Hiking - Team Asgardeners

The spotlight shone brightest on the game ‘Iron Line’, as it not only secured the 'Best Student Game' nomination but also earned a nomination for 'Best Game Design'.

And the winner is…

The award for Best Student Game was claimed by Team Trainwreck for their game Iron Line!

The jury’s reaction: “The judges were frustrated that this is not a full game (yet). Iron Line offers a unique twist on the Tower Defense genre. It cleverly combines cargo management with the placement of turrets. Add well-designed elements like the game economics and it makes the whole game fit together like a glove.“

Congratulations to all the students!
