What is Global Game Jam?

Global Game Jam is an annual event where thousands of creators across the globe come together for one intense, inspiring weekend. Participants form teams, respond to a surprise theme revealed at the start, and have just 48 hours to design, develop, and complete a game from scratch. It's not about perfection, it's about experimentation, collaboration, and the pure joy of making something new.

Who can participate?

Everyone! You don't need to be a BUas student or have any prior game development experience. We welcome:

• Programmers working in any engine or language
• Artists creating 2D art, 3D models, or animations
• Sound designers and musicians crafting audio experiences
• Writers developing narratives and dialogue
• Game designers shaping mechanics and player experiences
• Complete beginners eager to learn and contribute

What to expect

Friday evening: Kick-off

The weekend begins with the global theme reveal, ice-breakers, and team formation. If you're coming solo, don't worry, we'll help you find the perfect team.

Saturday & Sunday: Creation mode

This is where the magic happens. Your team will brainstorm, prototype, iterate, and polish your game. Expect late nights, creative breakthroughs, plenty of coffee, and moments of pure gaming joy.

Sunday evening: Showcase

Present your creation to fellow jammers, play everyone else's games, and celebrate what you've accomplished together. Every game is uploaded to the Global Game Jam website, where it joins thousands of others from around the world.

Practical Information

The event takes place Friday, 30 January 2026, 17:00 to Sunday, 1 February 2026, 17:00 at Breda University of Applied Sciences, with facilities available 24/7 throughout the jam weekend. We'll provide:

• High-speed internet and power outlets
