The annual Game Week has a new name, and even bigger ambitions: Dutch Game Week. From 27 November to 4 December 2025, Breda will, for the third consecutive year, be the vibrant heart of the Dutch and international games industry. The city will host a diverse programme featuring talks, showcases, workshops, esports tournaments, and the presentation of the Dutch Game Awards.

Dive into the world of play

Dutch Game Week showcases the full spectrum of the games industry, from artistic development and technological innovation to social impact and emerging talent. The event welcomes both professionals and the general public, offering meet-ups for developers and investors as well as accessible workshops for all ages.

With an increasing focus on serious gaming, the week highlights how games are not only a source of entertainment but can also serve educational, training, or behavioural purposes.

“Whether you’re a developer, publisher, entrepreneur, student, or passionate fan, this conference is the place to network, learn, and explore the future of games,” says Leon van Rooij, founder of Playgrounds and initiator of Dutch Game Week. “Games are no longer just entertainment; they’re also a powerful medium to explore societal themes, build skills, and tell stories.”

During the Dutch Game Week Conference on 3 and 4 December, international studios, creative pioneers, and leading thinkers will present their visions and work through talks, panels, portfolio reviews, and game demos.

Dutch Game Awards: The Oscars of the Dutch games industry

One of the highlights of the week is the Dutch Game Awards ceremony on 3 December at the Chassé Theatre. These prestigious awards, an initiative of the Dutch Game Association, celebrate the best Dutch games and the most inspiring initiatives within the industry each year.

Across thirteen categories, both today’s creators and tomorrow’s talents will be recognised.

“As the national industry association, we are delighted that the City of Breda is shining such a strong spotlight on games,” says Martine Spaans, General Manager of the Dutch Game Association. “This ambition to sustainably support the sector raises not just Brabant’s, but the entire Dutch games industry to a higher level.”

Dutch indie scene in the spotlight

Dutch Game Week offers a powerful stage for independent Dutch game developers. From major studios like Guerrilla Games to independent creators such as Vlambeer, the Dutch have already proven how far their creativity can reach.

Throughout the week, up-and-coming makers will have the opportunity to present their work to an international audience and industry leaders. Visitors can discover how groundbreaking games can be made even with limited resources.

Games as art and agents of change

During Dutch Game Week, visitors can experience the VR project Gay Simulator by Iris van der Meule. This colourful yet confronting game immerses players in the challenges faced by lesbian women. Featuring levels, “Pride Points”, and a “Hall of Fame”, the game cleverly combines fun with social awareness, demonstrating how games can contribute to inclusion and social dialogue.

Attendees can try the demo during the Playgrounds Conference of Art & Design, where level designer Sasha Lewis (Twirlbound) will also share her insights into creative game design.

Breda: The capital of games

It’s no coincidence that Dutch Game Week takes place in Breda. The city is home to internationally recognised institutions such as Breda University of Applied Sciences and Avans Creative Innovation, ensuring a continuous flow of new talent.

“Breda is a city full of creativity and technological innovation. With Dutch Game Week, we show that our games industry has international appeal. This week offers a platform for talent, fosters new collaborations, and strengthens the visibility of games as a vital creative sector,” says Alderman Carla Kranenborg – van Eerd.

Dutch Game Week is an initiative by Playgrounds, organised in collaboration with the Province of North Brabant, the Municipality of Breda, Breda University of Applied Sciences, Avans, De Rooi Pannen, Nieuwe Veste, Dynasty Esports, Breda Game City, and Breda Marketing.
