What are you up to nowadays?

Amilius: 'After graduating, I've mostly freelanced for various companies, both in and out of the gaming industry. It's been a journey of further mastering my technical design skills, while learning new ones such as UI/UX and web development. Plus, I’m working with “Persona3D” on a fun project where we are mixing VR with gamification to shake up how we interact with music. Using Unreal Engine and some unreleased VR/XR hardware.'

What are some of the best memories from your time at BUas?

Amilius: ‘I cherished my time at BUas. The practical approach to learning, studio-simulated environment, and the emphasis on soft skills development made it an enjoyable journey.’

‘During my final year, I had the opportunity to do a work placement at Vertigo Games, delving into the realm of virtual reality for the first time. It was a transformative experience that solidified my belief in VR's potential to revolutionise interactive experiences. One project that stood out was my involvement in the VR game "Metro Awaking," where I served as a tech design intern. My role involved studying previous games in the Metro franchise and translating their key features into VR-compatible elements. It was a fun challenge, navigating the transition from traditional gaming to the immersive world of VR.’

What advice do you have for current Games students?

Amilius: ‘Firstly, practise pitching your ideas to diverse audiences, including those unfamiliar with gaming. Secondly, embrace versatility; being a game developer requires broad knowledge across various domains. Thirdly, understand the purpose behind the course curriculum and actively seek opportunities for self-improvement. Lastly, learn to code; it's an invaluable skill in the tech-driven gaming industry.’

Where do you see yourself professionally down the line?

Amilius: ‘My long-term aspiration is to secure a position as a creative director, I hope to be known as the Willy Wonka of game development, infusing projects with elements of fun and innovation. Ultimately, I aspire to work for a company that fosters creativity and encourages out-of-the-box thinking.’
